What Happens After a K-1 Visa Interview?

Short answer

After the interview, the case may proceed toward visa issuance, require additional documents or administrative processing, or be refused. Do not make irreversible travel plans until the visa is actually issued and returned as instructed.

If the Visa Is Issued

Review the visa carefully and follow the consulate's passport-return instructions.

The Department of State explains that a K-1 visa allows a single admission within the visa's validity and requires marriage to the U.S. citizen petitioner within 90 days of entry.

If Additional Processing Is Required

Follow the instructions given by the consular officer or post.

Do Not Panic Over a Status Without Context

CEAC status labels can be confusing. Use the written instructions from the post and any documents provided after the interview.

Important

A verbal indication at the counter is not the same as an issued visa. Wait until the visa is physically issued and your passport is returned before booking travel.
