K-1 Appointments

K-1 Cancellation Appointments

Short answer

When another applicant cancels or reschedules their K-1 visa interview, that appointment slot may become visible again in the scheduling system. Whether it appears—and how long it remains bookable—depends on your consulate's scheduling platform.

How Cancellation Appointments Work

Most K-1 interview appointments are scheduled weeks or months in advance. Applicants sometimes need to change their date, which can make their original slot available to others.

Important: Cancellations are not guaranteed

A cancellation appearing in the system does not mean you will be able to book it. Other applicants may also see and attempt to book the same opening.

Why applicants reschedule

  • • Personal circumstances changed (work, travel, family)
  • • Medical or document issues
  • • Earlier date became available
  • • Case status changed

What happens when a slot opens

On AIS and similar systems:

  1. The canceled slot becomes visible in the calendar
  2. Eligible applicants can see and select it
  3. First applicant to complete booking secures the slot
  4. The slot disappears from available dates

Competition for Cancellation Slots

If a cancellation appears, other applicants may also be looking for openings. The time a slot remains available can be short.

Manual checking has limitations

Checking once or twice per day may miss short-lived cancellation openings. Some applicants report seeing availability that disappears within hours or less.

Reality check

Even if you receive an alert about availability, another applicant may complete the booking before you. An alert means something was observed—it does not guarantee you can secure the appointment.

Monitoring vs. Manual Checking

Manual Checking

  • • You log in periodically to check availability
  • • You might miss openings between checks
  • • Checking too frequently may trigger rate limits
  • • Requires attention throughout the day

Appointment Monitoring

  • • Software checks availability from your computer
  • • You receive a Telegram alert when openings are detected
  • • You decide whether to log in and book
  • • Works on supported AIS consulates only
Monitor for Cancellation Openings
At supported AIS posts, get Telegram alerts when K-1 interview openings are detected.

Real-World Testing

The K-1 Visa Appointment Monitor has been tested with actual cancellation openings at supported posts.

Montreal, Canada

A cancellation opening was detected and the applicant subsequently booked a K-1 interview appointment.

Nairobi, Kenya

A cancellation opening was detected and the applicant subsequently booked a K-1 interview appointment.
